Scanning your images yourself is certainly an option. As a photographer, it would truly bother me to not maintain full control of my pictures. With the technical advances of the times, it is possible to obtain the right equipment and get the job done. What you will have to consider is time, money, and the quality of the end product.
First, you will need to research the equipment and figure out what will work best for your budget and technical abilities. Then you will need to purchase the equipment, hook it to your computer (hoping your computer has the space required for the equipment). You will need a flatbed scanner, a film scanner, and image correction software. Once this is done it should take on approximately 7-10 minutes per image. That may seem like a long time, but if you consider that each image needs to be cleaned for dust, your scanner bed needs to be cleaned for dust and most of your images will need some repair. Studies have shown that most Americans have an average of 3,000 analog images. Using 7 minutes per image and 3,000 images would take 350 hours. That is approximately 9 workweeks at 8 hours a day. There is one more thing to consider when considering to do it yourself, that is expertise. Winning Photography Solutions is in this business because we have done the research, learned the equipment and have the time because this is our business not our sideline or our hobby.
The decision is ultimately yours. If you chose to use us, Winning Photography Solutions will treat your images as if they were our own and provide you with the best possible product for you and your family to enjoy for years to come.
